About

It’s my world, you’re just visiting…

Welcome to my world where the women can be more dangerous than the men who love them, the monsters can hide behind your best friend’s face, a normal life becomes a fleeting dream and the dead are just as annoying as they were when they were alive.

It’s a dark and dangerous place out there, so come on in if you dare.  Be careful, keep your blades sharp, your gun loaded, and make sure your boots are laced because if tall, dark and wicked shows up all bets are off.

On Writing…

The first time I wrote a story it was after I came home from watching Star Wars: A New Hope at a drive in theater. Deciding Princess Leia was just not good enough for Han Solo, I rewrote my own part into the story line.  Han was all for me, the tough female thief, and wussy Princess Leia could stay with Luke.  Years later when I found out Leia was Luke’s sister, it kind of killed the story but others had already sprung up in its place.

My females can be intimidating but the men love them, even if they are a pain in the ass.  Besides, who has time to wait for some guy to save you, when it’s faster to do it yourself?  Magic, in all its strange and twisted forms, exists.  Which means all those fantastical creatures we thought were only fairy tales, they’re real too, complete with fangs, fur and claws.  Too bad it’s hard to tell who’s the real monster.

Jami GrayOn Me…

Adopted at the age of 14, I became the fifth eldest of 37 children while growing up on the Arizona-Mexico border. Heading off to college, I finally graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s in Journalism and three minors-History, English, and Theater.  Shortly after marrying my techie geek hubby (who moonlighted as my best friend in high school) I completed a Masters in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix Oregon as bills needed to be paid.  Now, years later, I’m back in the Southwest where  I evened out the gender numbers in my home by adding to female labs to two Star Wars obsessed boys and one Star Wars obsessed husband. Delving into the wild paranormal worlds where romance collides with suspense and Urban Fantasy is queen, manages to salvage my sanity. At least that’s what the voices in my head say…

  1. Hi Jami, Your article on Savvy Authors – Deafeating the Show don’t Tell Monster… – is interesting, except for the typo in the title. Shouldn’t it read Defeating…

  2. Jami – I can understand the Star Wars obsession and agree with it – it was my father’s favorite and he meant the world to me but sadly he passed in 1985. Thanks for your constant encouragement for us writers – where would we be without the pushing by fellow writers?

    • My condolences, John, I loss my dad just before my first book came out. Still wish he’d been there, but I know he’s reading it in-between fishing trips up there!
One of the best things about the writing community is how much every author tends to reach out and help pull another up. I only hope I can be as helpful as those who’ve done that for me, so thanks, John!
